The Happy Pear exists to inspire people to eat well, feel good, and live better. It started out back in 2004 with Steve, Dave, a tiny shop and a dream of helping people to eat more veg! The Happy Pear now consists of over 60 food products, a suite of online courses, two wholefood retail cafes & shops, a range of bestselling cookbooks, a farm, a roastery and a community of over 1 million people living healthier! The mission is still the same, to create a healthier, happier world and build community!

The Role

The Head Chef will develop and improve our Church Road Site Food offering in accordance with our Future Food Vision. They will ensure that all food prepared, assembled and served in Church Road meets the highest standards of quality, taste, freshness, variety and presentation.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of working as a chef and will ideally have a passion for plant based food and for working for a healthy eating brand.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Cooking 4 days per week at a minimum in Church Road, Greystones.
  • Oversee all aspects of food preparation, ensuring consistency, quality, and adherence to food safety standards.
  • Lead and set daily/weekly/Supper Club/Catering menus and ensure our food has enough variety whilst delivering agreed sales targets and profitability.
  • Costing of all recipies .
  • Monitor portion control and food wastage to maximise profitability without compromising quality.
  • Ensure that kitchen hygiene and food safety standards are maintained, making sure all QMS records and traceability requirements are completed .
  • Ensure that Health and Safety standards are followed in accordance with statutory provisions and full HACCP compliance.
  • Undertake training as required to ensure continued development within your role.
  • Lead, motivate and manage the kitchen team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure they can carry out their role to the highest standard.
  • Recording of all staff training using Happy pear Training Platform, while keeping all training documents relevant and up to date.
  • Ensure that the kitchen is properly equipped to fulfil the food preparation, assembly and presentation standards.
  • Manage all kitchen stock and fresh ingredients arriving from external suppliers and from Pearville in Kilcoole with exceptional detail in stock rotation.
  • Ensure efficient forecasting and ordering of ingredients and goods.
  • Keeping a good record of allergens for every single recipe made in the kitchen and served to the public and having a good up to date knowledge of food intolerances and allergens.
  • Managing, approving and posting appropriate rostering of kitchen resources.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Formal Chef training/experience of a minimum of 5 years.
  • H.A.C.C.P training and certificates
  • Minimum 1 year’s experience with plant based food/menus.
  • 5 years operation at Senior Chef level with experience of food costing.
  • Excellent oral and written English
  • Good Computer Skills
  • Being highly creative and a positive “can do” attitude
  • A love for whole foods is important
  • Flexible and able to manage multiple demands in a highly pressurised environment
  • Passion, Energy and Enthusiasm.
  • Ability to take ownership and deliver to deadlines in a fast – paced environment
