Christmas is almost here and another year is coming to a close – what a year it’s been! So much has happened in 2017 and we’ve had such a blast! We released some new award-winning products, opened our new café in Clondalkin, met some super-inspiring people, and saw some amazing places!

It’s been a really exciting year for The Happy Pear and it’s been amazing to see how far we have come, since we started out as a pair of dreamers with a vegetable shop, a little red van, and big ideas! The Happy Pear recently celebrated its 13th birthday and it was brilliant to mark another year on the calendar, we are so grateful for all the support we have received over the years; without it, we would never be where we are today.

Our goal with The Happy Pear has always been about spreading health and happiness to as many people as we possibly can, and launching our new products this year has helped us to do just that. We released our delish new soup range, our amazing Nuts about Choc spread, and our tasty Bakes this year, and we have some more exciting food coming your way in 2018! We were also really honoured that our Sweet Beet Hummus and Lovely Basil Pesto won Blas na h’Eireann Gold Star Awards this year too!

Community is central to The Happy Pear and opening our new Clondalkin café this summer, was a real honour. We are super-chuffed to have been welcomed into the community there and we have had lots of great events take place in our café over the past few months. Our free weekly yoga classes have been a big hit, we had our Apple Pie Competition in October, we have continued our Happy Pear tradition of offering free porridge for brekkie every morning, and we also recently held our first Clondalkin supper club, which was a really fun night!
Our Church Road café has had lots of visitors again this year, including the President of Ireland himself, Michael D. Higgins! We were really honoured to have him drop by! Both our Church Road and Shoreline cafés got a shiny new makeover a few months ago, and we hope you’ll agree that they are looking better than ever now!
Our online community has continued to grow this year and we were thrilled to win the award for ‘Digital Marketing’ at the Bord Bia Food and Drink Awards 2017. We were also super-proud to get the YouTube Silver Play Button and reach 200,000 subscribers on our channel!
We have great fun making our YouTube videos, and we look forward to making many more next year. We really enjoyed our five minute meal series in particular; it was great to show how simple and easy, healthy and delicious meals can be.
One highlight that stands out for us, was a weekend in September that began with a trip to Dumfries House in Scotland, to meet HRH The Prince of Wales, and ended with a visit to Arizona! We were invited to Scotland for the 25 year celebration of the Waitrose Duchy Organic brand – one of the largest organic brands in the UK – and we also got to meet all the amazing farmers and suppliers, who produce the organic produce and products for Waitrose Duchy Organic. It was a real honour to be invited.
We then headed straight to Arizona in the US, to attend a three-day wellness event, organised by the popular American health website, Mind Body Green, where we met so many inspiring and amazing people; it was a really cool event!
Of course, we can’t forget our experience at Web Summit this year, where we were given the incredible opportunity to host the creatif stage and address over 2,000 people! It was such an exciting experience, and we loved every minute of it! All the travelling we have done this year has been great fun and we have met a huge amount of different people, it’s been very stimulating!

There are so many highlights of 2017 and we have lots of exciting things in store for next year too! Last month, our second cookbook was translated for the Dutch market, and our third cookbook – Recipes for Happiness – will be published in the spring. We also have lots more delicious products to release, and our online Happy Heart course, which kicks off on 8th January! 

We have been running our Happy Heart course since 2004, and we’ve had so many people achieve greater health and happiness by taking part – all through food in just four weeks! We are really passionate about wholefood and plant-based living, and this course sums up everything we believe in and swear by when it comes to achieving great health. Be sure to join us on the course in January!

Of course, we couldn’t forget our amazing team of Pears, who do a really job of helping to spread the message of health, happiness and community. Thanks guys!

We hope you have a brilliant Christmas and a healthy New Year, and remember to relax and enjoy the festive season; if you eat too much, don’t beat yourself up about it, just move on from it and remember that small changes, like swapping white bread for whole-grain bread, go a long way. Also, remember to get moving; whether it’s a walk with your family, a dip in the sea, or some yoga, movement helps to keep us healthy and happy!
