Homemade Electrolyte Powder

We’re currently training for an ultra marathon, so we’ve been having a lot of fun making our own snacks and drinks to bring along on the longer training days. This homemade electrolyte powder is simple to make, tastes great and is handy to have ready to mix into a bottle of water when we’re out running!

Takes 15 minutes

Serves 30

Ingredients

  • 90 g coconut sugar or date sugar
  • 60 g freeze-dried raspberries or strawberries blitzed into a fine powder
  • 22 g fine pink Himalayan salt or unrefined sea salt
  • 8 g cream or tartar (potassium bitartrate) found in the baking aisle

Optional flavour booster:

  • Zest of 2 organic lemons or limes spread flat and air-dried overnight

Instructions

  • Add the freeze-dried berries to a dry, high-speed blender or spice grinder and blitz for 10-15 seconds until you have a fine powder.
  • If your coconut sugar has large granules, add it to the blender with the berry powder and pulse a few times to create a finer, more even mixture.
  • Add the berry and sugar mixture to a bowl along with the salt and cream of tartar.
  • Whisk thoroughly for about 1 minute, making sure everything is evenly distributed.
  • If using the citrus zest, make sure it is completely dry before mixing it through.
  • Transfer the finished powder to a clean, completely dry airtight jar and store somewhere cool and dry.
  • To Serve Mix 10g (about 1 tablespoon) of the powder into 500ml cold water. Stir or shake well until dissolved. For an extra fresh hit, squeeze in the juice of ½ a lemon or lime before drinking.
