Whether they’re sprinkled raw over salads and stir fries, blended into dips and dressings, sautéed into soups and curries, or grilled for a smoky kick, scallions add brightness and a subtle bite to all kinds of dishes.

Fun Scallion Facts

  1. Scallions are part of the allium family, along with onions, leeks, and garlic, but they’re harvested young for a gentler flavour.
  2. You can eat the whole plant! Both the white bulbs and the long green tops are edible and delicious.
  3. Scallions are a great source of vitamin K, vitamin C, and antioxidants, supporting healthy bones and immunity.
  4. They’ve been grown for thousands of years, scallions are believed to have originated in Asia and were highly valued in ancient Egypt.
  5. You can regrow them at home! Place the root ends in a glass of water, and fresh green shoots will sprout in just a few days.
