Black Sesame Truffles


Black sesame seeds are tiny nutritional powerhouses. They’re naturally rich in minerals such as calcium, magnesium and iron, as well as healthy fats and antioxidants that help support heart health and reduce inflammation. Their deep, nutty flavour pairs beautifully with sweet ingredients like dates, making them perfect for simple no-bake treats like these truffles. These little bites are naturally sweet, fibre-rich and ideal as a quick snack, dessert or post-meal treat.

Takes 10 minutes

Serves 12

Ingredients
 

Truffle Base

  • 80 g oats 1 cup oat flour or ¾ cup oats
  • 90 g pitted dates ½ cup, packed
  • 90 g black sesame tahini ⅓ cup
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 45 g water or oat milk 3 tbsp
  • Pinch of sea salt

Coatings (for 3 varieties)

  • 12 g beetroot powder 2 tbsp
  • 12 g matcha powder 2 tbsp
  • 8 g white sesame seeds 1 tbsp
  • 8 g black sesame seeds 1 tbsp

Instructions
 

Blend the base

  • Add the oats to a food processor and blend until they form a fine flour (skip this step if using oat flour). Add the dates, black sesame tahini, vanilla extract, water or oat milk and sea salt.

Process

  • Blend until the mixture comes together into a thick, slightly sticky dough. If it feels too dry, add a teaspoon more liquid.

Shape the truffles

  • Roll the mixture into about 12 bite-sized balls using your hands.

Prepare the coatings

  • Place the beetroot powder, matcha powder, and the mixed white and black sesame seeds into three separate small bowls.

Coat the truffles

  • Roll some truffles in each coating until evenly covered. This gives you three colourful variations.

Serve or chill

  • Enjoy immediately, or chill in the fridge for about 20 minutes to firm up.

Storage:

  • Keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 1 month.
