Vegan Bacon is one of the most popular recipes from our new book. This is a great weekend treat or great in a sandwich any day of the week. It’s full of flavour, and, in our opinion, even better than the real thing! Enjoy!

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 2 cloves of garlic, crushed or finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons tamari
  • 1 tablespoon tomato purée
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup/liquid sweetener of your choice
  • 150g fresh tempeh
  • Some extra oil for frying (about 2 tbsp)

  • Make the marinade by blending or mixing all of the ingredients together (except for the tempeh & the extra oil) until super smooth, using a stick blender, food processor or a bowl and a fork/whisk.
  • Slice the tempeh into very thin slivers, rasher size, about 1/2cm thick, and place in a bowl with a flat bottom. Spread the marinade evenly over the sliced tempeh and leave to sit for 5-10 minutes. The longer you leave to marinade, the deeper the flavour will be!
  • Put a non-stick frying pan on a medium heat & heat the extra oil. Add the marinated tempeh, turning it over so that each side is nice and crispy. Serve with a veggie fry, in a sandwich or on its own – delish!
