Biography for The Happy Pear co-founders, David and Stephen Flynn

The Happy Pear twins, David and Stephen Flynn, are chefs and authors of bestselling cookbook, The Happy Pear – recipes and stories from the first 10 years. They love what they do and use their natural food store, wholefood cafes and evening restaurant, superfood sprout farm, own-label products, online shop, and health education talks and courses to inspire a healthier, happier world!

After studying business degrees at university, they travelled the world tasting as many local dishes and unusual ingredients along the way. When they returned, over a decade ago, their aim was to start a food revolution by making fruit and veg sexy, to get involved with their community and drag as many people along for the ride as they possibly could. Today, The Happy Pear is a family and community and all about making natural and healthy food mainstream and producing really great tasting products that make it easier for people to be healthier and happier.

They’ve also created a strong online community and a loyal following across their Social Media platforms and channels. Each week they release videos on The Happy Pear YouTube Channel and they’re also part of Jamie Oliver’s Food Tube family – the largest foodie community in Europe! The Happy Pear also won the Best Digital Marketing award at the 2015 Irish Restaurant Awards.

Their health education courses, most notably the Happy Heart Course (classroom and online versions), and talks on health, nutrition and lifestyle in workplaces and at events have become a huge success. During their talks on how to eat well, David and Stephen share their passion for healthy wholesome food and their journey to a happier, healthier lifestyle. They talk about the benefits of eating more wholefoods and fruit and veg, and explain why eating healthier food will give you more energy and help you feel better.

David and Stephen live in Greystones, Co. Wicklow with their families and they really ‘walk their talk’ by eating a wholefood and plant-based diet, practicing yoga, swimming in the sea, keeping bees and smiling every day!

2006: Leased the restaurant next door to the shop and opened a vegetarian café/restaurant
2008: Began presenting classroom based Happy Heart Courses teaching healthy eating practice to help lower blood cholesterol
2009: Established a sprout farm growing wheatgrass and healthy micro-greens in indoor grow rooms, and began supplying retail and foodservice outlets in Leinster
2011: Production of The Happy Pear range of pestos
2012: Produced and launched online version of Happy Heart Course
2013: Nationwide distribution of pestos and sprouts through SuperValu stores
2014: Released the best selling cookbook in Ireland 2014
2015: Nominated to become face of SuperValu’s Food Academy TV advert and increased listings with SuperValu stores nationwide
