🥬 Fun Facts About Kale

  1. Nutrient PowerhouseKale is considered the most nutrient-dense food on the planet per calorie, according to the Aggregate Nutrient Density Index (ANDI). It’s loaded with vitamins A, C, and K, plus calcium, iron, and powerful antioxidants.
  2. Cold-Loving CropKale actually gets sweeter after a frost! A cold snap converts some of its starches into sugars, making winter-harvested kale extra tasty.
  3. Ancient SupergreenKale has been grown for over 2,000 years — it was a staple in the diets of ancient Greeks and Romans and was even promoted as a key crop during WWII in “Victory Gardens.”
  4. Comes in Many StylesThere’s more than one kind! On our farm we grow a mix including curly kale, Tuscan kale (aka cavolo nero or lacinato), and red Russian kale — each with its own texture and flavour.
  5. Great for Soil TooKale is part of the brassica family and plays an important role in regenerative crop rotations — helping to feed the soil and disrupt pest cycles.
